General Information

We will do our utmost to make the fostering and/or adoption process  as straightforward as possible, but we need to ensure that each Shar Pei goes to the best temporary or forever home.

In general we do not rehome in the following conditions:

  • where a dog is going to be left longer than 3-4 hours on a daily basis, as this is very unfair to the dog
  • to any applicants who we believe may intend using the dog for breeding, as we have a no breeding policy.  In cases where the rescue is not in a position to neuter/spay before adoption, the adopter must sign an agreement that the dog will be taken to the vet for this procedure to be carried out within 3 months of adoption, or as soon as feasible. The adopter must provide evidence that the procedure has been carried out
  • to families with children under the age of 10 unless the dog has previously been checked out with young children
  • where the garden area is not secure.

Fostering  Process

Adoption  Process

What is fostering?

Fostering is taking a dog into your home until we can find a loving forever home. We are always looking for people to offer foster care to our dogs from within the UK, especially  as we are experiencing an increase in the number of Shar Pei coming into rescue.

Out dogs sometimes require special attention if they need medical treatment, have issues following on from being kennelled, or we need to see how they get on in a home environment.  Our fosterers offer invaluable care whilst gaining skills, experience  and an opportunity to give dogs the best opportunities to find new forever homes.

The process

If you think that you would be able to offer a Shar Pei a safe and loving short term  foster home then the process is simple and straightforward:

  1. Complete the contact form that can be found  at Our Dogs indicating that  you are interesting in short term fostering.
  2. Someone from SPRS will make contact to discuss short term fostering.
  3. A home check will be arranged.
  4. Someone from SPRS will make contact to discuss the next steps.

Please note that if you plan to short term foster, you must be able and willing to attend the SPRS vet located in East Kilbride.

What is adoption?

We care about the welfare of all the dogs entrusted to us. It is important that they go to a good home. So many have endured hardship  or bad treatment prior to coming to SPRS. We want to ensure that they go to loving homes where they will be able to live the rest of their lives  being happy and well cared for.  Adopting a dog gives a permanent home and  so a second chance of love and happiness that they should have had at the start of their lives.

A contract and adoption donation applies to all our dogs and  regular follow up checks will be done following the adoption process. All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and have rescue back up for support.

The process

If you think that you would be able to offer a Shar Pei a safe and loving forever home then the process is simple and straightforward:

  1. Complete the contact form that can be found  at Our Dogs indicating the    Shar Pei that you are interested in adopting.

  3. Someone from SPRS will make contact to discuss adoption with you, and to provide details of the non-refundable deposit you must pay.
  4. A home check will be arranged.
  5. Your vet may be contacted for a reference.
  6. Someone from SPRS will contact you to tell you if your application to adopt has been accepted.
  7. Once you have agreed to adopt a particular dog you will need to pay a non returnable donation of £50.   This will be deducted from the adoption fee which is currently £350. The adoption fee is payable  at the time of signing the adoption papers.
